Jazz in Istanbul: the best jazz bars and clubs

Istanbul has a quietly brilliant jazz scene. Turkish musicians blend jazz with local makam and rhythms, international players pass through regularly, and the city hosts one of Europe's oldest jazz festivals each summer. Year-round, small clubs and bars keep the music going most nights of the week.

Galata and Beyoğlu

The area around Galata Tower is Istanbul's jazz heartland. Nardis Jazz Club is the classic: intimate, serious about music and loved by locals and visitors alike. Asa-Khai Jazz Club, Bova and Club Lupe also feature jazz and related styles, and Fiba Salon İKSV runs a strong jazz program.

For a more casual vibe, Pera 77 and Andrea Karaköy offer jazz in a bar setting, Kaktüs Cihangir hosts analog vinyl nights, and Swing İstanbul in the historic Mısır Apartmanı runs swing dance evenings.

Kadıköy

On the Asian side, the terrace jazz evenings at İstanbul Kitapçısı Kadıköy, a bookshop, are a local favorite. Ağaç Ev Kadıköy is known for acoustic and jazz nights, and The Wall Saloon & Performance and Muaf Kadıköy mix jazz into their programs.

Cultural spaces like Yeldeğirmeni Sanat Merkezi, Fil Sahne and Karşı Sahne host occasional jazz concerts.

Şişli: Bomonti and Nişantaşı

Babylon in Bomonti books jazz and world music. Divine Brasserie & Jazz Club pairs dinner with jazz, and ALTA Nişantaşı and barrio. Topağacı have a more modern bar feel. Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall stages jazz concerts throughout the year, especially around festival time.

Swing Planet Bomonti is a hub for swing dancers on this side of the city.

Beşiktaş and the Bosphorus

In Beşiktaş, Perde Arkası Etiler, Puzzle Istanbul Etiler and Joanna Istanbul feature jazz and soul nights. Any in Arnavutköy is a calmer option by the water.

Here jazz usually comes with dinner, so ask when the music starts when you book.

Old city and beyond

In Fatih, Gregor Jazz Club is an option if you are staying near the historic peninsula. On the Asian side, Jolly Joker Kartal İstMarina occasionally hosts jazz concerts. Programs outside the center are less frequent, so check announcements.

If you are staying in Sultanahmet or Sirkeci, it is also easy to cross the Galata Bridge on foot or by tram and be in the Galata jazz quarter within minutes, so the old city is never far from a good set. Just plan your way back if you stay out late.

Jazz club or jazz bar?

A jazz club usually means programmed concerts where the audience listens quietly. A jazz bar keeps the music in the background of a social evening. Choose the club for a concert, the bar for drinks with friends.

Blues, soul and swing are part of the same world; tags on GIGO venue cards show which style leads.

Swing dance nights

Istanbul's swing scene has grown fast. Social dances at Swing Planet and Swing İstanbul studios often start with a short beginner lesson, and they are one of the easiest ways for expats to make friends. Even if you don't dance, live swing music is a joy to watch.

Before you go

Jazz clubs are small, so book ahead on weekends. Programs are posted on venue Instagram pages; GIGO's Tonight and This week pages collect current events. The Istanbul Jazz Festival, usually in summer, brings international names, so watch for its program.

GIGO's data comes from community research and venue announcements. We don't list prices or hours; confirm with the venue. Find the gig. Go.
