Latin nights in Istanbul: salsa, bachata and reggaeton
If you dance salsa or bachata back home, good news: Istanbul has a friendly Latin dance community, and it is one of the fastest ways for expats to make friends in the city. Most nights are social dances held on set weekdays, often starting with a short beginner class, and the crowd is a mix of Turks, expats and visitors.
Go.
How Latin nights work
Latin nights are tied to specific weekdays: one venue might do bachata on Wednesdays and salsa on Fridays. Many open with a short class, then switch to social dancing, where people rotate partners. Reggaeton and Latin pop nights are more like regular club nights, no partner needed.
Beginners are welcome. Asking someone to dance, or being asked, is normal and friendly.
Beyoğlu
Beyoğlu has the most options. The Emek Sahnesi at Grand Pera hosts Latin nights, and Ritim, Supermarket, BEAT and Back Street Club & Rooftop Bar Taksim feature Latin music. The Life Club Taksim İstanbul is also on the list.
Tango dancers should look at 333 (Milonga 333 / istanbulTANGO). Yabangee Base, known for community events that bring expats and locals together, is another good place to connect.
Şişli
Centro Latin Night at JJ Pub Kanyon, WU Bomonti, Divine Brasserie & Jazz Club and Efendi feature Latin music, and Tango & Cash focuses on tango and Latin dance. Harbiye Open-Air Theatre occasionally hosts Latin concerts in summer.
Kanyon is a shopping center in Levent with its own metro access, so getting there and back is straightforward. Bomonti is a short ride from the Osmanbey stop on the M2 line, close to many hotels around Şişli and Taksim, which makes this side of the city convenient for a midweek dance night.
Beşiktaş and elsewhere
In Beşiktaş, Totem Performans and the Sensual Wednesdays night at Maybee Pub are known to the dance crowd. Beylikdüzü 45'lik, Acar Sanat Akademi in Çekmeköy and Tango Pasión İstanbul in Kadıköy are also listed.
Outside Beyoğlu and Şişli, choices are thin. If you live on the Asian side, dance studios' social nights are your best bet.
Quick genre guide
Salsa is fast and full of turns. Bachata, from the Dominican Republic, is slower and closer. Kizomba, from Angola, is smooth and connected. Reggaeton is club music rather than a partner dance. Tango has its own world of milongas.

Dance studios
Much of the scene revolves around studios that teach classes and organize regular socials. Taking a few classes is a great way to meet people quickly, especially if you have just moved to Istanbul, and it makes the club nights much more fun.
Classes are often taught in Turkish, but dance is visual, and many teachers speak some English.
Which night, where?
Because everything runs on weekly schedules, checking programs matters more here than for any other genre. Venue Instagram pages are the most reliable source; GIGO's This week page collects upcoming events. Special nights and festivals can change the routine.
Before you go
Entry terms and class times vary and change, so we don't list them. Check the night's program, whether there is a class and when it starts before you head out.
GIGO's data comes from community research and venue announcements. Confirm, grab your dance shoes and hit the floor. Find the gig. Go.
